More Filipinos keen on honing AI skills

More Filipinos are keen on learning about artificial intelligence (AI) as employers prefer workers with background in this advanced technology, signaling an increasing interest in upskilling amid the digitalization, according to a study by online learning platform Coursera.
In its 2025 Global Skills Report, Coursera noted that the number of Filipinos who enrolled in generative AI (GenAI) courses grew by 383 percent or nearly five times, surpassing the global average of 195 percent.
This, as the study found out that AI and machine learning are the top skills prioritized by the employers.
“The Philippines is laying the foundation for a digitally confident workforce. AI is a clear priority for employers, and learners are stepping up by acquiring GenAI skills and industry micro-credentials to stay ahead,” Coursera head of Asia Pacific Eklavya Bhave said.
“From AI strategies to forward-thinking education policies, we’re seeing a strong national commitment to equipping Filipinos with the right mix of technical, business and human skills,” he added.
According to the study, 86 percent of the Filipino knowledge workers were already using AI tools at work. This is beyond the global average of 75 percent.
Other top courses for Filipinos are critical thinking and cybersecurity.
In terms of overall skills proficiency, the Philippines ranked 88th out of 109 countries. The Filipino learners showed 29 percent proficiency in business, 21 percent in technology and 17 percent in data science.
